in collaboration with Kayla Tange

Man-Eater 남자 잡아먹는 여우 is a collaboration between Kayla Tange and myself. This on going project explores the Korean fable of the 9 tailed fox: the Gumiho - the “shapeshifting female monster living under the proverbial bed” feeding on male hearts and livers. Re-performing and re-writing the patriarchal myth to reclaim the perspective of the Gumiho, Yoo and Tange collaborate to unshackle the fable. Re-imagining the nine tails as nine mirrors, the mirrors become a tool to reflect back at the society that has perceived the Gumiho as evil.

Tange fabricated the mask based on an interview that she conducted with Yoo on past traumas. Yoo performs the mask in Seoul and Los Angeles California.
