王: Heaven, Woman, Earth (2018 - )

王 (WÁNG): Heaven, Woman, Earth is a work in progress series documenting the performances of wearing a traditional Korean wig (가체) amidst the public of the United States, particularly the city of Los Angeles, where I was living during the project. Growing up in the United States, I learned very quickly that repressing my culture brought less strife. Anything that could be associated as Asian, Korean, or heaven forbid oriental, was forcibly pushed away, very publicly. Through my slow but still ongoing progress of reclaiming my heritage and embracing all of my racial identity, these performances were a blatant, proud display of my culture - as well as an apology to my younger self. 王 (WÁNG): Heaven, Woman, Earth is currently in the publishing stage and the images on this page are only a small selection of the book.

王 (WÁNG) is the traditional Korean character for King.
